Atlantic Row 2007

Paul Harris and Steve Gardner, both members of Zennor Gig Club (Penzance), completed their row across the Atlantic in the 2007 Woodvale Atlantic Rowing Race following the building of their boat 'The Reason Why'.

The two rowers left La Gomera in the Canary Islands on 2nd December 2007 and arrived in Antigua on 27th January 2008.  The route is 2,552 nautical miles (2,936 miles) as the crow flies although the route taken by rowers is always longer than this.  The row took 55 days 12 hours and 3 minutes to complete.  22 boats started the race, of which 2 retired.  Paul and Steve came 4th in the pairs class and 6th overall.

Cornwall Hospice Care, was Paul and Steve's chosen charity, a charity created by the merger of St Julia's Hospice in Hayle and Mount Edgcumbe in Austell, and which provides specialist palliative care to people throughout Cornwall who are terminally ill.  In August 2008, Paul and Steve presented CHC with a cheque for £24,000.

Further details of the race including the race blog, photos, poems, etc, are available on the website, www.the-reason-why.co.uk
